Lighting talks:
In every PyHawaii meetup, we will feature community members working with Python via Lightning Talks. Each talk will be at most 5 minutes. Submit your Lightning talk proposal here. If selected, we will contact you for more details. All topics and slides must be pre-approved.

Proposals can be announcements, showcasing a new library or product, job openings, or anything that’s “here’s what I’m working on”. The goal is to improve networking and opportunities for discovery of everything related to Python here in Honolulu.

Speaker

Simon Willison

Simon is a tech renaissance man and is difficult to describe in one sentence. He's been a long time software engineer, YC startup founder, co-creator of many popular OSS projects including Django and Datasette. But lately, he's most famous for his vanguard position in the "AI Engineer" wave. He coined the phrase Prompt Injection and his articles are often cited by software engineers working with AI and in the media.

He will give us a quick run-through on the latest developments in LLMs and the associated tech around deploying them, like embeddings, retrieval augmented generation (RAG), etc. We'll also cover unique issues related to LLMs, like prompt engineering and security concerns like prompt injection. We'll then open it up for Q&A.

Since this is a Python meetup, we’ll also talk about Python. As a board member of the Python Software Foundation and co-creator of one of the most popular web development frameworks in the world in Django, Simon has unique insight into the language and community.
