Purple Prize and HI SOUP team up to fund creative technology in Hawaiʻi

  • Entreprenuers Sandbox 643 Ilalo Street Honolulu United States (map)

We are excited to share an opportunity to support, celebrate, empower and fund creative projects emerging from the Purple Prize community. we welcome you to join HI SOUP - a micro-granting benefit dinner on Wednesday, August 14 at Entrepreneurs Sandbox from 6pm to 8pm.

Since 2014, HI SOUP has launched dinners throughout Oʻahu and Maui to steadily grow a legacy of community-funded projects made to benefit the people of Hawaiʻi. HI SOUP has partnered with Purple Prize to host a series of events focused on innovative projects using the power of technology. In the past, project recipients have received micro-grants ranging between $500 to $1200 dollars. The Purple Maiʻa Foundation will match the community funds for up to $500, so attendees will have the chance to double their contribution!

How does HI SOUP work?

For $15 participants receive soup - this round served by Bobby Ahquin of Kalama Kusine - and a vote. $12 of the $15 is funneled into a community chest, which is then awarded to one of three community projects showcased at the event. The remaining portion of the donation ($3) is given to the local chef of the evening. Over the course of the event, participants enjoy SOUP and listen to three (3) short pitches on projects or organizations creating community benefit. At the end of the dinner, participants vote on which project they wish to fund. The project with the majority of votes is awarded the community chest.

SOUP events are produced nationally and are designed to introduce communities to participatory budgeting and creative placemaking. We hope that HI SOUP can change the way people engage with the democratic process and increase community creativity, collaboration, change, trust and fun!
